The 3rd – 5th grade music class learned about Timbre last week. As outlined in the Howard County Objective III.A.1.0 Develop awareness of the characteristics of musical sounds, Grade 5 Section A: Demonstrate and explain dynamics, tempo, timbre, articulation, students listened and described different instruments and the character and quality of their sounds. The students also had the opportunity to play rhythmic selections on Remo Shape Drums, which based on the size, produce varying timbres. Students also explored dynamics and articulation by striking the drums at different speeds and strengths. As you can see from the pictures below, everyone learned something new and had lots of fun in the process.
